Meru National Park

This beautiful park is located 350 km northeast of Nairobi via Nairobi-Thika-Nanyuki road or by air through the Mulika Lodge Airport or through two airstrips of Kina and Elsa’s Kopje Lodge. It covers an expansive 870 km² that falls on the Equator and is bisected by rivers and streams that harbor crocodiles and hippos. It is largely unspoilt affording one a chance of seeing all the big five and some rare antelopes such as the Gerenuk, Duiker, Bohor Reedbuck and Oribi. The park is home to many species of birds including the Pel’s Fishing Owl, Kingfisher, Roller, Bee Eater, Starling and Weaver. Both large and smaller herbivores are to be found plus many species of snakes. The park was the home of the two famous conservationists George and Joy Adamson who raised Elsa, the famous lioness in the best selling book and winning movie “Born Free”. Other tourist attractions include the home of the Adamsons, Adamson’s Falls, stunning views of Mount Kenya and the Tana River.
